Vision Éternel – The Last Great Torch Song
After taking a few years to carefully prepare their 4th EP, Vision Éternel finally unveils “The Last Great Torch Song”. This brilliant album is another new step for the band, in a way that they have completely changed the listening experience of their releases. The first two releases, “Seul dans l’obsession” and “Un automne en solitude” on Mortification Records were rather straight forward ambient, while their last EP “Abondance de périls” started to mark a change. This release finally brings this band forth on the new level.
This EP features four guest musicians who have all previously collaborated or been involved with Alexandre Julien in the past. “Sometimes in Longing Narcosis” features melancholic keyboards by Garry Brents (who has been on Abridged Pause Recordings with his past project Parabstruse and is now doing a wide variety of bands including Cara Neir and Bunrage) and a nihilistic spoken word by Eiman Nejad (who’s fame grew with Eliminator, and was a founding member of Mutiny Within). “Sometimes in Anticipation” features additional layered guitars and bass by Alexander Fawcett (known for Oceanus and recently Arboretus). And finally Howard Change (who had previously been in Throne of Mortality with Alexandre Julien, then Black Albatross and most recently Valleys of the Living) adds the perfect touch with a spoken word on “Sometimes in Absolute Togetherness”.
This concept album is by far the most introspective by Vision Éternel, and stands as a dedication to another relationship. A relationship of love, as is the topic for all the bands’ EPs. This album is dedicated to Laura Dolgy.
